THE Gold Coast Suns had the Demons nervous in today's AFL match in Melbourne, but ended up going down 17.10 (112) to 12.10 (82).

The Suns were just six points behind at halftime, while a brilliant goal to Nathan Ablett - set up by brother Gary winning the ball, running, then handballing to Nathan in a vacant goalsquare - gave Gold Coast a glimmer of hope to start the final term.

They cut the margin to 17 points early in the quarter with quick goals to the excellent Michael Rischitelli, Luke Russell and Rory Thompson.
Melbourne skipper Brad Green took a mark and goalled truly for the steadier the Demons needed, before Russell booted a second to cut the margin to 16 points.

But Melbourne managed to hang on to break their five-match losing streak and post their first win under caretaker coach Todd Viney.

Gold Coast midfielder Rischitelli was the star for the Suns with 30 possessions and two goals.

The Suns are already out of finals contention and finish their season against Hawthorn at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
